Against All Odds (1984)

Jack's Rating :

Why anyone would try to remake a classic like Out of the Past is beyond me. It's like trying to make a copy of the Mona Lisa, and thinking that your version might be better.

Jeff Bridges, James Woods,  Raquel Ward and Richard Widmark star and that's a really good caste, but the movie pales in comparison to the original.

On it's own merits, it probably wasn't a terrible movie, but because it was so inferior to the original it is almost unwatchable to those who love Out of the Past.

Jane Greer, who was so good in the original as Kathie Moffat, appears as the mother here and it was great to see her, but unfortunately she was wasted.

The music which tries to create an unsettling atmosphere takes away from the movie. The title song by Phil Collins which plays in the closing credits is really good though.

Overall, a pretty weak movie.

Quotes:

Terry Brogan: So what is it you don't like exactly, football players, tacos, or beer?
Jessie Wyler: I like tacos and beer.

Jessie Wyler: He said the only way I'd get away from him would be to kill him.
