Hollywoodland is a period drama about George Reeves (Ben Affleck) who was the star of the 1952 TV series, The Adventures of Superman.

The movie is also about about Louis Simo (Adrien Brody), a down on his luck detective depending on hand out jobs from larger firms. The movie opens with George dead, and Louis being hired by George's mother to investigate his death.

We then see flashbacks of the last days of George. Louis finds out that George was running with Toni. Mannix, the wife of MGM General Manager, E.J. Mannix.

The music and tone of the movie is dark even though it is in color.

Simo investigates George Reeves death. He is desperate for a big story that will make his career. George is also desperate for a big hit. He was in Gone with the Wind, but things having been going too good since then.

George gets the role of TV's Superman, but he is not happy. He thinks he looks like a "damn fool".

While Simo investigates, we see a flashback where George and his girlfriend have an argument and she accidentally shoots him through the head.

Then we go back and see George as he deals with the fame his Superman role brings. George goes for a reading on the movie From Here to Eternity, but he doesn't get it when

Back and forth we go, as George lives his life and Simo investigates it. Both George and Simo live in a noir world, It's different for a noir two have two protagonists both of whose lives are crumbling down around them.

A very good period peace shot in the noir style, and based on a true story. But like all noir stories the truth is pretty murky.
