Either the beginning of the neo-noir cycle or the end of the noir cycle, Blast of Silence tells the story hit man Frankie Bono, who arrives in New York from Cleveland, to kill a mobster named Troiano.

Frankie gets his gun from a Big Ralph who lives in a run down apartment with his pet rats.

Frankie does meet a friend from the orphanage and gets together with his sister, but mostly the story is about Frankie planning his hit.

We mostly learn about what Frankie is thinking from a voice-over that functions as Frankie's adviser. It says:

You're alone. But you don't mind that. You're a loner. That's the way it should be. You've always been alone. By now it's your trademark. You like it that way.

If you want a woman, buy one. In the dark, so she won't remember your face.

When the Better Business Bureau rings the Christmas bell, the suckers forget there's such a business as murder, and businessmen who make it their exclusive line.

They all hate the gun they hire. When people look at you, baby boy Frankie Bono, they see death. Death across the counter.

You'll know him by the hate in his eye when he asks for a light.

You know the type. Second-string syndicate boss with too much ambition and a mustache to hide the fact he has lips like a woman. The kind of face you hate.

You don't have to know a man to live with him. But you have to know a man like a brother to kill him.

God moves in mysterious ways," they said. Maybe he is on your side, the way it all worked out. Remembering other Christmases, wishing for something, something important, something special. And this is it, baby boy Frankie Bono. You're alone now. All alone. The scream is dead. There's no pain. You're home again, back in the cold, black silence.

A killer who doesn't kill gets killed.

When Big Ralph tries to shake Frankie down for more money Frankie kills him and then tries to pull out of his contract. When he tells the guy who hired him, he knows that he is in big trouble.

Frankie completes the contract but when he goes to pick up the rest of his money he is chased by two men who shoot him down.

The narrator sort of comments that Frankie is happy about leaving this world for th esilence of the other.  He says: "“God moves in mysterious ways, they said. Maybe he is on your side, the way it all worked out. Remembering other Christmases, wishing for something, something important, something special. And this is it baby boy Frankie Bono. You’re alone now. All alone. The scream is dead. There’s no pain. You’re home again. Back in the cold, black silence.”

A disturbing low budget movie that was really well done.
